Logo design compliance

Rules and compliance about logo design and delivery to clients

Its important to always keep in mind when designing logos and delivering work to clients that the main part of our job as designers is to create unique logo design, we are logo designers, the clients we serve are in need of unique logo design of premium quality. It´s important all logo design is truly unique and custom designed by you the designer.

Examples of methodology that is approved

IIt is okay to look at existnig moodboards, create new moodboards, search for existing logo design in platforms such as Behance, Pinterest, Google and Shutterstock. However after the reserach phase is complete and a direction is obtained. It is important we as logo designers are remixing, iterating, re-creating and creating a truly new logo. This applies especially for the logo icon which is the main attribute of the unique design. The title of the company, and text ini the logo is often a font which we do not design, but simply select, selecting a font is important, but is usually a very small ob we can do in minutes. Then applying proper spacing, additional text, kerning, tracking space this can usually be done easily without much custom work done by the designer, selecting the font can often be done in minutes or hours. If you the logo designer is selecting a reference that is either abstract like a shape, triangle, circular, oval, square, sharp, soft or you are using a reference of something visual and concrete like a horse, a snake, a pen, a human it is very important to create a certain amount of change so the end result we deliver to the client is truly unique, the amount of change should be minimum 25% changed and remixed.

Approved methodology of logo design

Always expect the client to take a screenshot of your logo in “Google images” to search for similar images and they will then find your reference, if you used a stock this will be found, so its important your logo design is truly remixed, and changed enough at least 25% so it will pass as a new logo. It is important to always avoid any form is coplaaints such as “this logo is not unique, its a stock, you did not design a new logo you have based it on this image, you have based it on this reference, you used an icon from Flaticon.com or a stock vector from freepik.com

It is okay to use stocks from Freepik as a base, but the design must be changed and remixed with atleast a 25% change so it will pass as a new logo
It is okay to use an icon from Flaticon.com however the icon must be re-designed, remixed and changed minimum 25% so it appear new and unique
It is okay to use a reference from Pinterest.com and look at references there, but again the work we submit to client must be perceived as new and original

Expect the client to check your logo online

Expect client to check Pinterest.com Google Image Search Freepik Flaticon and all other websites we use to gather inspiration
So be cautious when using references in the logo design process, make sure what we submit will pass as “new original logo design”
Especially when creating and delivering work that has visual concrete illustrations such as animals, objects, illustrations of something concrete a horse, a hand, a human

Practice to hand draw element

Practice also always in every project where you have the chance to create by hand with either pencil and paper first and vectorize after, or use pen tool or pencil tool to create hand drawn elements, it is a very good skill to have as a logo designer to be able to do some basic drawing by hand both with pencil and paper aswell as pen tool, you should aim to master the “pen tool” in illustrator over time. it might be hard in the beginning, but drawing by hand will be rewarding over time as your skill will go up when you practice more and more.
